Short CV:

Ambassador Harald Braun was Germany’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from March 2014 to July 2017. During the 71st GA session (2016/17) he served as Vice President of the U.N. General Assembly.

From 2011 to 2014 Harald Braun was State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and between 2009 and 2011 Director-General for Management of the German Foreign Office. Former diplomatic postings include Amman, Beirut, London, Bujumbura, Washington and Paris. In 1992-94 he was Chief of Staff to former Foreign Minister Hans-Dietrich Genscher and from 2003 to 2005 Deputy Foreign and Security Adviser to the Federal Chancellor. From 2005 to 2008 he was on leave of absence from the diplomatic service as Corporate Senior Vice-President for policy and external relations of Siemens AG. 2008-17 he was also Honorary Research Professor for Global Studies and Diplomacy at the State University of New York (Stony Brook).

Harald Braun studied economics and history in Tübingen and New York and completed a doctorate at SUNY Stony Brook before entering the Foreign Service in 1981.
